Orthopedic Massage

Orthopedic, also known as Medical Massage, is all about slow, deep connective tissue strokes to bring the body’s posture into balance. Deeper and more effective than Deep Tissue, this technique is a more comfortable, less painful alternative to Structural Integration (Rolfing), with fantastic benefits. By using myofascial strokes (“myo” means muscle, “fascia” means connective tissue) to re-train the body’s habitual slouching or faulty movement patterns, Orthopedic Massage can reduce chronic pain and improve posture. Alex’s neck and shoulder work is particularly effective, and many of Alex’s clients who sit for long hours working at a desk or computer have found life-changing results from regular Orthopedic maintenance sessions.

Benefits of Orthopedic Massage include:

  • Reducing chronic pain at major joints: ankle, knee, hip, spine, shoulder, neck, elbow, wrist
  • Improved posture
  • Improved functionality
  • Deep body awareness

Shiatsu Massage

Five-Element Shiatsu is a gentle-yet-powerful Japanese technique using palm pressure, thumb pressure, and gentle-yet-deep stretching. Employing the same principles as Chinese acupuncture, we encourage the body’s Qi flow along its twelve meridian lines, but with no needles. Clients describe the results of Alex’s shiatsu as “centering,” “balancing,” and “spiritually profound.” For those who don’t like oil or cream–or undressing for massage—Alex’s shiatsu can be received in the traditional way with the client wearing loose-fitting, comfortable clothes.

Add Snow Lotus organic essential shiatsu oils, tailored specifically to balance out your particular shiatsu points: add $20 per session.

Deep Tissue Massage can relieve and eventually resolve chronic muscle tension associated with work stress, sitting at a desk for hours, overuse injuries, poor posture, etc.
